Many people don't know how long silicone sealant takes to dry after application. The curing time increases with thickness. For example, a 12mm thick layer of acidic silicone sealant may take 3-4 days to cure, but it will usually cure within 24 hours. A 3mm outer layer, when bonding glass, metal, or wood, will achieve a peel strength of 20 pounds after 72 hours.
Precautions for Using Silicone Seal:
What precautions should we take when using silicone sealant? The curing time of silicone sealant is closely related to its thickness. Taking a 12mm thick layer of acidic silicone sealant as a reference, it generally takes three to four days to fully cure before bonding metal, glass, or most types of wood. The longer the curing time, the slower the sealant cures. If the area where the sealant is applied is completely sealed, the tighter the seal, the faster the curing speed.
So how can white silicone sealant be used? You can use a hairdryer or apply heat, but this method is inefficient and laborious. Silicone sealant cures from the outside in; heat transfer is not a sustainable method and doesn't provide much reinforcement. It only quickly cures the dirty surface of the glass, while the inside remains uncured. Therefore, this method is unnecessary.
